B Schools from USA, Europe, India Learn from Innovative Indian Business Strategies.

HYDERABAD, India -- The Indian School of Business (ISB), in collaboration with the Strategic Management Society (SMS), USA, organised a high profile international conference from December 12-14, 2008, at the ISB campus, Hyderabad, India. The conference, with the theme "Emerging India: Strategic Innovation in a Flat World," is led by Professor C.K. Prahalad, Paul and Ruth McCracken Distinguished University Professor of Strategy, Ross School of Business, University of Michigan.

Speaking on the significance of the conference, Rajat Gupta, Chairman, ISB said, "The world is looking at a resurgent India and there is an urgent need for business schools to understand and research these practices. The SMS India conference will play an important role in transferring the knowledge of these practices beyond India."

The conference has attracted high level participation comprising 45 Indian and 120 international business schools across the world. Renowned academics such as Robert Dolan, Michigan, Ted Snyder, Chicago, Jordi Canals, IESE, Spain; Yves Doz, INSEAD, France and others will lead several discussions on issues of globalisation of India Inc, multinational innovations in India, Indian leadership in strategy, etc.

"In the past India has looked up to developed countries for thought leadership," said M Rammohan Rao, Dean, ISB. "I expect the conference to generate enough momentum to stimulate a lasting interest in utilising India's intellectual capability so that we can become a crucible for thought leadership in the future."

Learning from India Inc

At least 15 CEOs from Airtel, Reliance, ICICI, Biocon, Nokia, Satyam Computers, Tata Sons, and others that are some of India's biggest success stories engaged with world renowned 'strategy' scholars to share their experiences and insights

Speaking on the new model of leadership emerging from India, Professor C K Prahalad, said, "Indian companies have responded well to the demands of globalisation and have transformed themselves into strategic global players. The high velocity of change in the Indian setting, unique elements of the Indian environment, and key attributes of its culture have engendered an 'Indian' model of leadership. This model has the potential to be applied anywhere else in the world."

About 50 Deans of leading international business schools such as INSEAD, Chicago GSB, IESE , Wharton and others will meet Deans of leading Indian business schools such as ISB and IIM's for the first time at the Dean's Conclave. They will discuss the changes in the role of business schools and how to integrate emerging economies in the process of creating knowledge through research.

Grooming World Class Researchers, Faculty

The conference included several workshops - Doctoral, Faculty Consortia for evaluating and encouraging research, creating peer review processes, building international linkages for faculty exchange and gaining insights on the research and publication process. The conference created an excellent opportunity for scholars from various countries to learn about the developments and research opportunities in India.
