Azusa Pacific University (APU), a Los Angeles-based comprehensive evangelical Christian university, today announced that it has selected Jabber, Inc.'s Extensible Communications Platform (Jabber XCP) to deliver presence-based communications, including instant messaging, on a university-wide basis.

Jabber XCP is built on top of the Extensible Messaging and Presence Protocol (XMPP), an open protocol based in XML that is widely used as a common denominator between open source and proprietary IM systems. The protocol is expected to be ratified early next year by the IETF as an Internet standard for instant messaging.
