Azna LLC Announces 350 km, 10 Gbps Transmission with Directly Modulated CMDM-TM- Lasers.

Business Editors/High-Tech Writers

WILMINGTON, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 10, 2004

Azna LLC (Wilmington, MA) today announced error-free transmission at 10.7 Gbps over a record 350 km of fiber without the use of optical dispersion compensation.

This extends the previously announced 10 Gbps transmission over more than 200 km of uncompensated fiber for Azna's stand-alone Chirp Managed Directly Modulated (CMDM CMDM Collaborative Master Data Management

New levels of network flexibility and associated cost reductions will be realized by facilitating upgrades from 2.5 Gbps to 10 Gbps, by virtually eliminating network dispersion planning, by extending node separations, and by eliminating optical dispersion compensation. "This latest achievement of 350 km for 10 Gbps systems without the need for optical compensation comes at an opportune time for our industry," said Parviz Tayebati, CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. "The pressures of cost, performance, and flexibility imposed by the growing demand for broadband services simply cannot be met by the existing technologies of EMLs or discrete modulators. The CMDM technology gives the service providers the opportunity to take advantage of new and enabling standards for their networks," added Tayebati.

AMCC's DispersionXX chipset portfolio includes popular Optical Transport solutions such as the S3394 SONET/SDH/FEC receiver, and the Niagara and Rubicon FEC-enabled asynchronous Refers to events that are not synchronized, or coordinated, in time.
