DES is limited to a 56 bit password, while carrick allows a 448 bit password. The longer the password, the longer it takes an outsider to break in. carrick is so secure, it can't be exported due to federal restrictions.

"We've made it easy for commercial and corporate developers to add incredibly strong encryption services to their application. The carrick v1.0 toolkit is powerful, flexible, easy to integrate, and extensible.", says Doug Stuart, Azalea azalea (əzāl`yə) [Gr.,=dry], any species of the genus Rhododendron, North American and Asian shrubs of the family Ericaceae (heath family) that are distinguished by the usually deciduous leaves.  Software's vice president of engineering. "More than that, it forms the foundation for the cryptographic services we'll be delivering in future releases." carrick has its own API and file format. It supports encryption with authenticated date/time stamping.
