material and bone anchors to secure soft tissue structures in surgical procedures Surgical procedures have long and possibly daunting names. The meaning of many surgical procedure names can often be understood if the name is broken into parts. For example in splenectomy, "ectomy" is a suffix meaning the removal of a part of the body. "Splene-" means spleen.  where bone anchors are indicated.

Axya has developed a patented, proprietary method of utilizing ultrasonic energy to weld polymeric materials used in surgical procedures. Its initial products are designed to ultrasonically weld suture, thereby eliminating knot tying by the surgeon. The instrumentation has been developed in collaboration with a number of surgeons representing several surgical specialties. This collaboration led to the conclusion that the elimination of knot tying through suture welding is a cost-effective alternative to what can be a time consuming, tedious task. The suture welds produced by the Axya technology exceed U.S.P. standards for knotted suture. Additional products are being developed for open or laparoscopic Laparoscopic
