Axis Introduces First Vandal-Resistant, Indoor, Fixed Dome Network Camera.

CHELMSFORD, Mass. -- Axis Communications, the global leader in the network video market, introduced today a high performance, fixed dome network camera for indoor locations at risk for vandalism. The AXIS 216FD-V Network Camera is compact and discreet, making it an ideal camera for the surveillance of schools, stores, banks and prisons.

The AXIS 216FD-V is the vandal-resistant complement to the best-selling AXIS 216FD Network Camera, which launched in April 2006. The AXIS 216FD-V has a metal base and a durable, transparent cover to prevent damage. It utilizes progressive scan technology and advanced image processing to deliver crisp, digital images of moving objects, even in low light conditions down to 1 lux. The network camera delivers up to 30 frames a second (full motion) in VGA resolution and uses simultaneous Motion JPEG and MPEG-4 video streams to optimize both image quality and bandwidth efficiency.

The AXIS 216FD-V has a built-in microphone and connections for an external microphone and speakers, enabling two-way audio communication with visitors or intruders. The camera also provides event management capabilities such as video motion and audio detection, and pre-and post-alarm image buffering. Power over Ethernet (PoE) allows the AXIS 216FD-V to be powered via the network, reducing cabling requirements and installation costs.

The AXIS 216FD-V supports Internet Protocol Version 6 (IPv6) in addition to the standard Internet Protocol Version 4. It also offers sophisticated network security capabilities such as HTTPS encryption and IEEE 802.1x for port-based authentication. It supports Quality of Service (QoS), which enables the reservation of network capacity and the prioritization of mission-critical surveillance data in a QoS-aware network.

The AXIS 216FD-V is supported by the industry's largest base of application software through the Axis Application Development Partner program, as well as the AXIS Camera Station video management software. The network camera is currently available through Axis' distribution channels for the manufacturer's suggested price of $899.
