Axesstel Awarded Patent for Seamless Connection Using Multiple Combinations of Different Telecommunications Technologies in One Device; Axesstel Patent Key for Future Development of Hybrid Voice and Data Wire-line and Wireless Devices.

SAN DIEGO -- Axesstel, Inc. (AMEX:AFT), a leader in the design and development of fixed wireless voice and broadband data products, today announced it has been awarded a patent by the United States Patent and Trademark Office. The patent provides for the intelligent control of primary and secondary processors, thereby enabling hybrid or converged devices that can support two or more telecommunication technologies. The primary processor and secondary processor can be any combination of wireless technology such as GSM, CDMA, CDMA2000 1xEV-DO, WCDMA/HSDPA, Wi-Max, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth or wire-line technology such as public switched telephone network (PSTN).

"We view this patent award and our other pending patents to be the cornerstone for our current product development targeted to better serve emerging markets and for future development of advanced 3G devices that converge voice and data, wireless and wire-line, and WWAN and WLAN technology to allow us to penetrate developed markets," said Marv Tseu, chief executive officer for Axesstel. In one example of the patent implementation, a hybrid phone can be integrated with a primary wireless processor and a secondary wireless processor. The primary wireless processor controls the overall operation of the hybrid device and also controls the secondary processor to make a voice connection using different landline or wireless technologies. The primary processor also controls the user interface such as speaker, display, keypad, microphone and GPS functions.

For example, a device can be integrated with a CDMA primary processor and a cordless secondary processor. If the device is within cordless range, the primary CDMA processor will control the secondary cordless processor to establish the connection to the PSTN to enable a voice call. When out of cordless range, the primary CDMA processor will establish a direct connection with the CDMA network to enable the voice call.

The Axesstel patent (US 7,043,268 B2) was awarded May 9, 2006 and is valid in the United States until May 9, 2026. The same patent is pending in 57 countries worldwide. Axesstel has 11 other patents pending with the United States Patent and Trademark Office, primarily in fixed and mobile wireless voice and data technology.
