(Between the lines: the inside scoop on what's happening in the publishing industry).Congratulations to novelist Colson Whitehead Colson Whitehead (full name Arch Colson Chipp Whitehead) is a New York-based novelist. In 2002, he received a MacArthur Fellowship, often referred to as the MacArthur "Genius" grant. who was named a 2002 MacArthur Fellow. Referred to as the "genius award," Whitehead, at 32, is the second youngest recipient of this year's fellowship and one of only three African-American winners. The author of two novels, The Intuitionist in·tu·i·tion·ism n. Philosophy 1. The theory that truth or certain truths are known by intuition rather than reason. 2. The theory that external objects of perception are immediately known to be real by intuition. (1998) and John Henry Days (2001), Whitehead received his B.A. from Harvard University in 1991. He is also the recipient of the Whiting Writer's Award (2000) and the Young Lion's Fiction Award from the New York Public library New York Public Library, free library supported by private endowments and gifts and by the city and state of New York. It is the one of largest libraries in the world. (2002). Other African-American winners include documentary filmmaker, director, producer and writer Stanley Nelson (The Black Press: Soldiers Without Swords) and George Lewis, trombonist, composer and Professor of Music at the University of California, San Diego UCSD is consistently ranked among the top ten public universities for undergraduate education in the United States by U.S. News & World Report.[3] It is a Public Ivy.
