CORRECTION (ran 1/26/05): Sean Ericson, who won third place in the elementary school elementary school: see school.  division in the writing contest part of the Lane County Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration, goes to Malabon Elementary School. The wrong school was listed in a brief on Page D2 Jan. 19.

 Jr. Day event on the University of Oregon campus The University of Oregon campus in Eugene, Oregon has around 80 buildings and facilities, including athletics sites such as Hayward Field, which is the site for the 2008 Olympic Track and Field Trials, and McArthur Court, and off-campus sites such as nearby Autzen Stadium and the .

The City of Eugene Human Rights Commission presented leadership awards to the Rev. Dan Bryant and Jim Garcia. The Associated Students of Lane Community College and the Black Student Union of Lane Community College presented an award to Mark Harris. The Lane County Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration Committee presented an award to Marilyn Mays.

The Eugene and Bethel school districts presented awards for winners of student essay and poetry contests:

Elementary school: first place, Rebecca Meyers, Howard School; second place, Leila McElroy, Howard School; third place, Sean Ericson, Howard School.

Middle school poetry winners: first place, Erin Butler, Kennedy Middle School Kennedy Middle School can mean at least two things:
  • Kennedy Middle School (Redwood City, CA)
  • Kennedy Middle School (Rockford, Illinois)
  • Kennedy Middle School (Cupertino, CA)
  • Kennedy Middle School (Atlanta)
; second place, Jenna Tittlefitz, Kennedy Middle School.

Middle school essay winners: first place, Rati Bainum, Jefferson Middle School Jefferson Middle School is a middle school located in Jefferson City, Tennessee. The middle school is home to the football team the Elks, which has won more conference champs than any other middle school in Tennessee. ; second place, Lexy Thompson, Jefferson Middle School.

High school poetry winners: first place: Athrylis Sather-Hodgetts, North Eugene High School North Eugene High School is a public high school of about 1,200 students in Eugene, Oregon, United States. It is located at 200 Silver Lane near the Santa Clara area of Eugene.[1] North Eugene's mascot is the Highlander. ; second place, Courtney Radekin, North Eugene High School; third place, Mary Kloster, North Eugene High School.
