Awards and recognition.First Knut Kringstad Award presented during the TAPPI TAPPI Technical Association of the Pulp and Paper Industry co-sponsored International Symposium on Wood and Pulping Chemistry The first Knut Kringstad Award was presented to Ms. Yukiko Tsuji from the Graduate School of Bioagricultural Sciences of Nagoya University Nagoya University (名古屋大学 Nagoya daigaku in Nagoya Japan. Ms. Tsuji gave an oral presentation titled "Storage and Supply of Monolignol in Lignin lignin (lĭg`nĭn), a highly polymerized and complex chemical compound especially common in woody plants. The cellulose walls of the wood become impregnated with lignin, a process called lignification, which greatly increases the strength and Biosynthesis Biosynthesis The synthesis of more complex molecules from simpler ones in cells by a series of reactions mediated by enzymes. The overall economy and survival of the cell is governed by the interplay between the energy gained from the breakdown of compounds ", co-authored with Seiichi Yasuda and her advisor Prof. Kazuhiko Fukushima. The award is named in the memory Professor Kringstad who dedicated his life to mentoring students an advancing the field of wood and pulping chemistry. |
