Award-winning New Jersey project making a big mark on community.

Cranford Crossing, the largest redevelopment undertaken in the Cranford, NJ's historic downtown business district in more than a century, is now emerging on the skyline.

Developed by Westminster Communities, Cranford Crossing is a pedestrian-friendly community consisting of 50 luxurious condominium units and 22,000 s/f of retail amenities, which will occupy two striking buildings situated directly across from Cranford's train station.

As part of the project, Westminster Communities has also upgraded streets and infrastructure in the area and built Cranford's first municipally owned parking garage, providing 310 spaces to be shared by commuters, shoppers, retailers and residents.

"We are making excellent progress on the project," noted Sam M. Gershwin, president of Westminster Communities of the $16 million project. "Both buildings are already up and framed, and we expect residential sales to begin next month. All underground site work is finished, and the sidewalks and asphalt paving is ready to commence. The municipal garage structure is nearly complete and will soon receive final inspection before opening for the public."

"All the rough mechanicals--plumbing, electric and HVAC--are completed in the East Building, the sheet rock is about to go up, and more than half of the exterior masonry is completed," said Gershwin. "In the West Building, the rough mechanicals are underway, most of the masonry work is completed, and we have started on the roofing."

In 2005, the project was one of four honored with a Smart Growth Award from New Jersey Future as a forward-thinking development that will improve the state's communities while preserving its natural areas.

Westminster Communities has worked closely with township officials to create a project design that complements Cranford's rich architectural history.
