Award-winning Education Series Launches in New York With Help of BP's Additional $15 Million National Commitment.

 -- A Peabody Award-winning public television series, which has a goal of helping prepare young children to enter kindergarten, will now be televised in New York/Tri-State area on Thirteen/WNET, as part of a nationwide launch due primarily to the multi-million dollar support provided by BP America and the BP Foundation.

KCET/Los Angeles launched A Place of Our Own and Los NiSos en Su Casa, its Spanish language Spanish language, member of the Romance group of the Italic subfamily of the Indo-European family of languages (see Romance languages). The official language of Spain and 19 Latin American nations, Spanish is spoken as a first language by about 330 million persons  companion, in California.  and caregivers of preschool-age children. BP was one of the original funders of the series in 2004 with an initial grant of $10 million.

Now, thanks to more than a $15 million commitment from the BP Foundation and BP America, and support from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting The Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB) is a private non-profit corporation which is chartered and funded by the United States Federal Government to promote public broadcasting.

Beginning Monday, January 15, A Place of Our Own will air at 6 a.m. Mondays-Fridays on Thirteen/WNET. Furthermore, both A Place of Our Own (at 9 p.m.) and Los NiSos en Su Casa (at 9:30 p.m.) will air M-F M-F Monday Through Friday  on WNET's 24-hour digital children's channel KIDS THIRTEEN.

Kindergarten teachers estimate that one in three children is unprepared for the challenges of school.
