Award group members create track in woods.

YOUNG people have built a path in a wood.

They constructed a tarmac track through Little Deer Wood in Mirfield.

The 60- strong Duke of Edinburgh Award group included young people with learning and mobility disabilities.

Denise Bedford, who led the group, said: "It took about three months to build the path but it's made an amazing difference by making the wood more accessible."

The work was funded by mobile phone company O2, which presented a pounds 600 cheque towards the work.

The group of young people aged 14 to 25 have also been learning about the environment.

Denise said: "We planted rhubarb in March and we'll be pulling it up this week. Before we started this, some of the young people thought fruit and vegetables came from the freezer in Morrisons!"
