Award Winning PENNZANE(R) Lubricants Are Now Available in Customized Viscosities.

FAIRHAVEN, Mass. -- PENNZANE(R) Synthesized Hydrocarbon Fluid, a low-vapor-pressure lubricant for vacuum and space based applications, is now available in two new grades, PENNZANE X1000 and PENNZANE X3000. The introduction of higher and lower viscosity fluids opens the door to a wide range of PENNZANE fluid viscosities and expands the number of applications that can use this unique synthetic hydrocarbon lubricant.

Components that handle high loads or require the damping effect of higher viscosity greases will gain immediate benefit from X3000, which has a viscosity of 220cs at 100(degree)C. The X1000 oil has a viscosity of 8cs at 100(degree)C and an operating liquid range of -50(degree)C to 125(degree)C, allowing delicate systems with feather-weight torque to use a PENNZANE lubricant. The new grades maintain the same low volatility, wide liquid range and additive solubility of the original PENNZANE X2000, which has a viscosity of 14.5cs at 100(degree)C. All grades are completely compatible, allowing for custom-blended fluids with viscosities from 8cs to 220cs (at 100(degree)C).

With 14 years of "space tested" reliability, PENNZANE lubricants are used regularly for bearings, gears and actuators in satellites, space vehicles and space suits. In terrestrial applications PENNZANE fluids are used in vacuum manufacturing of semiconductors, and show promise in magnetic drive applications, where the ever shrinking physical size of drives nears vacuum-like conditions.

PENNZANE fluid is a multiply alkylated cyclopentane (MAC), a synthetic hydrocarbon manufactured by Shell Global Solutions and distributed in the United States by Nye Lubricants, Inc. Nye was the first company to commercialize PENNZANE-based lubricants and has a broad family of oils and greases made with PENNZANE fluids.

Developed specifically for space applications Pennzane lubricants are ideal where low volatility, wide liquid range, and performance additive solubility have a significant impact on a component's functionality and life span. Many studies have demonstrated PENNZANE lubricants provide significantly higher wear protection compared to other low volatility lubricants such as perfluoropolyethers. The recently commercialized fluids make PENNZANE-based lubricants even more of a design solution.
