"The IDT-C6, combined with Award Software's EliteBIOS, is a potent product for system and motherboard manufacturers building low cost mobile and desktop systems," said Joe Baranowski, vice president of sales and marketing for Centaur Technology Inc.

"We found Award Software very easy to work with, they provided excellent support and time-to-market advantage in the testing and verification of our product. Many of our target customers are already Award Software customers."

System manufacturers will be interested in the small die size of the IDT-C6, which translates to lower cost and very low processor power consumption making it a competitive solution for the desktop and mobile personal computer (PC) market. The IDT-C6, initially available in 150-MHz, 180-MHz and 200-MHz versions, will include MMX (MultiMedia EXtensions) A set of 57 additional instructions built into the Pentium MMX chip for improved multimedia and modem performance by performing mathematical operations on multiple sets of data at the same time (see SIMD). "The suite includes our RPBAccess(tm), DMIAccess(r) and APMAccess(tm) products designed to be consistent with the objectives of the Zero Administration Windows(r) initiative."
