Avvio Networks Introduces A2050 Chassis.

BEDFORD, Mass. -- Avvio Networks today announced its new A2050 chassis. The A2050 is a 2U six-slot multi-protocol chassis, with carrier class features such as dual power feeds, redundancy, remote management, and hot-swap capability. Its flexible design provides support for 10/100/1000 and 10G Ethernet as well as SONET/SDH up to OC-192/STM-64.

The A2050 chassis supports Avvio Networks' Long Reach technology. This technology has the capability to send a 10Gigabit signal over 200 kilometers of SMF-28 fiber without adding dispersion compensation. The A2050 also supports EDFA (Erbium-Doped Fiber Amplifier) A device that boosts the signal in an optical fiber. Introduced in the late 1980s, the EDFA was the first successful optical amplifier.  modules, eliminating the need for external amplification. In addition, the A2050's many modules include an OC-48 to OC-192 Multiplexer, eight port Gigabit Ethernet to 10Gb Ethernet, DWDM (Dense WDM) The term given to wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) when significantly more channels were being added. Since WDM is increasingly more "dense" all the time, both terms are used synonymously. See WDM.

The hot swappable modules, redundancy and user-accessible SFP and XFP transceivers combine to create an extremely flexible and powerful platform delivering carrier-class features and reliability."

One of the most exciting features of the A2050 chassis is the ability to share modules with the A2500 chassis, now in development. The A2500 is a 16 slot, rack mount chassis with the same features as the A2050 chassis. The A2050 chassis first customer ship is expected in June.

The A2050 conforms to applicable ITU and Telcordia standards and can be used with equipment from Cisco (Nasdaq: CSCO CSCO Cisco Systems Incorporated (stock symbol)
