Avvio Networks Adds Extended Reach Option to A1040.

LOWELL, Mass. -- Avvio Networks once again extends its leadership in the 10Gigabit data transport market by adding Extended Reach technology to their A1040 OC-48 to OC-192 multiplexer.

The A1040's extended reach covers spans up to 200km of SMF-28 fiber without external dispersion compensation. It is available with fixed or widely tunable DWDM (Dense WDM) The term given to wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) when significantly more channels were being added. Since WDM is increasingly more "dense" all the time, both terms are used synonymously. See WDM.

"By adding Extended Reach to our A1040 we are further reducing the cost of upgrading to OC-192." said Leo Goyette, founder and CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board. , "With our Extended Reach technology, an A1040 can be added to an existing network without disrupting network operations. The A1040 Multiplexer, A1020 Repeater and A1070 Optical Amplifier provide a complete end-to-end solution for OC-192 Networks."

The A1040 is a 2RU device and is manageable via serial port, Telnet or SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol) A widely used network monitoring and control protocol. Data are passed from SNMP agents, which are hardware and/or software processes reporting activity in each network device (hub, router, bridge, etc. . It can be configured as a network edge device or as an in-line regenerator. The A1040 can be used with Avvio Networks' A1020 repeater and A1070 Optical Amplifier for a complete OC-48 to OC-192 network upgrade. The A1040 is shipping now, with its extended reach option currently in field trials.

The A1040 conforms to applicable ITU and Telcordia standards and can be used with equipment from Cisco (Nasdaq: CSCO CSCO Cisco Systems Incorporated (stock symbol)
