Avocent Extends Third Party Power Access and Control via DSView(R) 3 Software for Complete Data Center Manageability.

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. -- Avocent Corporation (NASDAQ: AVCT) today announced the expanded features of its DSView(R) 3 management software to include management of third party power devices. Customers who select the Sentry Switched (Cabinet Power Distribution Unit) CDU products by Server Technology, Inc. for power management can take advantage of a single interface for remotely and securely managing power along with servers and serial devices through DSView 3 software.

By using DSView 3 software, customers who select the Sentry Switched CDU as well as the Avocent SPC power control device can easily associate server names with actual power outlet ports for more accurate remote manageability. The integration of more power management choices with the Avocent software is planned.

The Sentry(TM) Switched CDU equipment is available for purchase both through Avocent Take Command Program(R) resellers and direct from Server Technology. Switched CDU's are available with a variety of outlets types with 2, 8, 16, 32 and 48 outlets, and combine remote configuration and management with power distribution and power and environmental monitoring. Avocent also provides out-of-band power management of servers, storage and telco devices built with Intelligent Platform Management Interface (IPMI). IPMI data is stored on a stand-alone processor independent of the OS, BIOS and CPU, so IT administrators can remotely cycle power and reboot even when the operating system is unresponsive. Avocent's DSI5100 IPMI proxy appliance, accessed via DSView 3 software, securely proxies IPMI data from UDP to a TCP data stream for routing to a user console through a firewall. IPMI data also can be used to monitor server health including the temperature, fan, and voltage.

DSView 3 software provides access to third party in-band administrative tools as well as power management devices. Microsoft Terminal Services using RDP (Remote Desktop Protocol) or VNC (Virtual Network Computing) can be accessed via DSView 3 software and includes automated failover to Avocent's out-of-band tools for more complete manageability.
