Avocent Announces the Retirement of Barry L. Harmon.

Avocent Corporation (Nasdaq/NM:AVCT AVCT Advanced Vehicles Concept Team ) today announced that, effective September 28, 2001, Barry L. Harmon will be retiring as Senior Vice President of West Coast Operations. In commenting on his decision, Mr. Harmon stated, "With the integration of Cybex and Apex into Avocent well along the way, now seems like the right time for me to step back and spend some time deciding how I want to spend the next phase of my life. There are good people in place to assume my responsibilities." Mr. Harmon will remain as a director of Avocent Corporation.

"We want to wish Barry the very best as he pursues personal and family interests beyond Avocent," stated Stephen F. Thornton, president and chief executive officer of Avocent Corporation. "Barry played a key role in the merger of Apex Inc. and Cybex Computer Products Corporation, and was a leading player in integrating the two companies following the formation of Avocent in July 2000.
