) Wednesday announced that Robert W. Mason will join the company as its new vice president and chief information officer, reporting to Chief Executive Officer Roy Vallee.

He will commence his duties as CIO CIO: see American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations.

Mason will be leading Avnet's global IT strategy, leveraging Avnet's computing resources and global best practices to provide cost-effective and best-in-class applications solutions for Avnet's businesses and trading partners worldwide.

With more than 25 years of experience in corporate information systems for Fortune 100 companies, Mason comes to Avnet from Cendant Corp., where he served as executive vice president and chief information officer. Prior to that he was the group vice president and chief information officer for Pinacor, a division of the former Microage Inc.
