), Tuesday announced the promotion of two executives, John Hovis and Don Sweet.

Hovis has been named vice president/director, Global Strategic Planning Strategic planning is an organization's process of defining its strategy, or direction, and making decisions on allocating its resources to pursue this strategy, including its capital and people. , reporting to Vallee. Hovis is primarily responsible for developing and implementing the company's global strategic planning management system, which incorporates Avnet's strategic global objectives with global budgeting and performance measurement.

Prior to his promotion, Hovis was director, Global Strategic Planning. He began his career at Avnet in 1992 as a strategic account manager, and later held posts as manager of Planning and Analysis, and director of the Business Information Office.

Don Sweet, a 33-year Avnet veteran, has been promoted to senior vice president, Supplier/Materials Management, reporting to the Global Office of the Presidents, Brian Hilton and Steve Church. In his new post, Sweet is responsible for the management of global supplier agreements, and the

development and coordination of global materials management Materials management is the branch of logistics that deals with the tangible components of a supply chain. Specifically, this covers the acquisition of spare parts and replacements, quality control of purchasing and ordering such parts, and the standards involved in ordering,  activities.

Prior to his promotion, Sweet served as senior vice president/director of Global Supplier Management, developing the infrastructure for Avnet's global inventory management and supplier agreements. He was previously a senior vice president/director of Avnet Electronic Marketing Group's materials management.
