Avnet Avnet, Inc. (NYSE: AVT) is a technology B2B distributor headquartered in Phoenix, Arizona.

"Avnet, Inc. (NYSE: AVT), is one of the world's largest value-added distributors of semiconductors, connectors, passive and
 Electronics Marketing:
What: Avnet Electronics Marketing, the largest operating group of
Avnet Inc. (NYSE: AVT), has commissioned a study of
customers and suppliers to determine their readiness for
next year's Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS)
legislation, which becomes law next year. The study,
conducted by Technology Forecasters Inc. (TFI), outlines
what electronics companies are doing/planning in regards to
the environmental legislation that bans six hazardous
substances in products sold in Europe after July 1, 2006.

When: The full report is available July 21, 2005.

Why: The electronics industry faces a significant challenge:
compliance with the European RoHS directive, which places
strict limits on lead, cadmium, mercury, hexavalent
          chromium, polybrominated biphenyl and polybrominated
diphenyl ethers. Component manufacturers are modifying
production processes to address these restrictions.
Original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) are weighing their
own options. Avnet commissioned TFI to do a follow-up study
from its 2004 survey of suppliers, to determine market
          readiness.
