Avnet Electronics Marketing Creates New Executive Position to Manage E-Business.


PHOENIX--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 10, 1999--

Greg Monte has been named to the newly created post of senior vice president/director of Global Electronic Business, Avnet Electronics Marketing (EM).

 Steve Church, president of Avnet EM, Americas, Monte will dual-report into the office of the president of EM Global and directly to Church.

"Avnet is moving toward a time when virtually the entire global enterprise will be driven by electronic business methods," Church said. "While we are currently very successful in doing business via the Internet, e-business tools must be continually enhanced to enable Avnet to be more responsive, efficient and cost-effective in serving customers and suppliers.

"In addition to enabling our worldwide customers to purchase from us online, we must also provide other online services such as order management, design support, forecast management, expediting and technology enabled relationship management (TERM).

"Further, as our suppliers transform their businesses into electronic enterprises, we must work closely with them to ensure that our business relationships are not only uninterrupted, but improved," Church added.

In his new role, Monte is responsible for rapidly driving Avnet EM's current e-business efforts to encompass a global set of services.

He will also oversee the establishment of standards for Internet and extranet sites, and facilitate Avnet EM's participation in RosettaNet, an electronics industry consortium composed of suppliers, customers, banks, enterprise solutions companies and distributors, sponsored by the National Electronic Distributors Association (NEDA NEDA National Economic and Development Authority (Philippines)

).

In addition, Monte is to develop and manage Avnet EM's e-business alliance programs such as the recently announced joint venture, ChipCenter, a comprehensive Web site for electronics engineers and purchasers.

Monte joined Avnet in 1984, after six years with Arrow Electronics. He held vice president positions in Reseller Sales and Marketing, Customer Satisfaction and Process Development. He also co-managed Avnet's Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award The Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award is given by the United States National Institute of Standards and Technology. Through the actions of the National Productivity Advisory Committee chaired by Jack Grayson, it was established by the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality  application process.

Prior to this promotion, Monte was senior vice president of Business Process for Avnet Electronics Marketing/Americas, responsible for information systems, training and business process development, reporting to Church.

Tom Ault has been named as Monte's successor, with responsibility for process development, training and information technology strategy and deployment, and Y2K See Y2K problem and Y2K compliant.

 compliance for Avnet EM/Americas. Ault joined Avnet's Time Electronics division in 1987 as systems and programming manager. In 1992 he was named vice president of Applications Services for Avnet's Information Services See Information Systems.  Division (ISD See IDD. ).

He joined Avnet EM in 1997 as vice president, group information officer. His background also includes managerial and field technical support positions with Tandem Computers and NCR (NCR Corporation, Dayton, OH, www.ncr.com) A technology company specializing in financial terminal transactions, retail systems and data warehousing. Until the late 1990s, NCR was heavily invested in the hardware side of the industry, known worldwide as a major manufacturer of computers  Comten and he was a software developer with Royal Globe and Continental Insurance Companies. Ault received a BA from Pennsylvania State University Pennsylvania State University, main campus at University Park, State College; land-grant and state supported; coeducational; chartered 1855, opened 1859 as Farmers' High School.  in 1976.
