) announced today that Dr. Eleanor Baum, a member of Avnet's Board of Directors and Dean of Engineering at Cooper Union Engineering School, has been inducted into the Women in Technology International's (WITI (Women In Technology International, Sherman Oaks, CA, www.witi.com) An organization dedicated to the professional development of women in science and technology, founded in 1989. It supports regional chapters and conferences and provides ongoing opportunities for information exchange, ) new Hall of Fame.

Baum was among the first ten inductees to be named to the Hall of Fame at a special ceremony hosted by IBM at the second annual WITI Conference, Channels for Change. The honor was granted to women from diverse areas of the sciences and technology who have made contributions in their fields and to the advancement of women.

In addition to her WITI Hall of Fame induction, Baum has received many awards: an honorary Doctor of Science degree from Union College in 1993, an honorary Doctor of Engineering degree from Notre Dame in 1995, an honorary Doctor of Science degree from NJIT in 1996, the Outstanding Woman Scientist Award in 1992 from AWIS, the Dean's Medallion from Michigan State University Michigan State University, at East Lansing; land-grant and state supported; coeducational; chartered 1855. It opened in 1857 as Michigan Agricultural College, the first state agricultural college.  in 1992, the Upward Mobility Award from the Society of Women Engineers in 1990, and the Woman of Distinction Award from the National Association of Student Leaders in 1991.

She was the national winner of the 1988 Emily Warren Roebling Emily Warren Roebling (1843 – 1903) was born to Phoebe Lickley and Sylvanus Warren, in the village of Cold Spring, New York, on the eastern shore of the Hudson River. She would later become the daughter-in-law of John A. Roebling, designer of the Brooklyn Bridge.  Award presented by the National Women's Hall of Fame The National Women's Hall of Fame was created in 1969 by a group of people in Seneca Falls, New York, the location of the 1848 Women's Rights Convention. The mission of the National Women's Hall of Fame is "to honor in perpetuity those women, citizens of the United States of . She received the Engineering Achievement Award in 1987 from the Long Island Federation of Technology (LIFT), and the Outstanding Alumnus Achievement Awards from both CCNY and from Polytechnic University in 1986.

Baum holds a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Polytechnic University in New York. She is also President of the American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE) and President-elect of the Accreditation Board for Engineering & Technology (ABET).

As a member of Avnet's Board of Directors, Baum serves on the following committees: Executive Committee, Finance Committee, Pension Plan/401K Committee, and the Audit Committee.
