Avnet Design Services Develops Interface Adaptor for Texas Instruments Data Converter Devices and Xilinx FPGAs.

A new interface adaptor designed by Avnet Design Services allows designers to integrate existing Texas Instruments See TI.

 evaluation modules (EVMs) with Avnet Design Services' evaluation and development kits for Xilinx FPGAs. The adaptor allows 29 different Texas Instruments EVMs to interface with 12 different Avnet-designed evaluation and development boards featuring Xilinx Spartan-2/2E/3 and Virtex-2/2Pro FPGAs. Designers for applications such as industrial control and data acquisition will be able to quickly and easily create complete development platforms for FPGA-based embedded control and DSP (1) (Digital Signal Processor) A special-purpose CPU used for digital signal processing applications (see definition #2 below). It provides ultra-fast instruction sequences, such as shift and add, and multiply and add, which are commonly used in math-intensive  applications requiring data conversion devices.

Designers can create a hardware platform by combining the correct TI data conversion devices and Xilinx FPGAs and then augment the design with specific IP cores and design tools from Xilinx, Avnet and third-party providers. This will speed time to revenue for a variety of applications such as consumer digital media, security, and wireless infrastructure. The board is available separately or with optional Xilinx development kits, IP cores and software tools.

For instance, a designer using a Xilinx Virtex-2 FPGA in a motor control application can use Avnet's adaptor board to quickly connect to any of the growing line of Texas Instruments modular data acquisition EVMs, trimming days or even weeks off the development cycle."
