), will integrate Raab Karcher Electronic Systems (RKE Systems), one of Europe's leading value-added distributors of computer systems and subsystems, as part of Avnet's acquisition of the VEBA VEBA Voluntary Employees' Beneficiary Association  Electronics Distribution Group.

"The billion dollar RKE business is complementary to Avnet Applied Computing's European business strategies and brings critical mass to strengthen and grow our disk drive and other computer peripheral products businesses," said Ed Kamins, president of Avnet Applied Computing.

"AAC fully intends to continue growing the RKE business and to invest in its sales, technical and inventory resources, which will further our position as a leading distributor in the global marketplace. We are very excited about the existing supplier relationships that will now be a part of Avnet Applied Computing."

The RKE Systems branded businesses will be combined to become a European business unit of Avnet Applied Computing and will be renamed Applied Computing Enabling Technologies (ACET ACET AIDS Care Education and Training

On Aug. 7, 2000, Avnet, as part of a consortium of buyers, announced its agreement with E.ON E.ON Energy On (German energy company)  AG to purchase the EBV EBV Epstein-Barr virus.
