Aviva Solutions Inc., a business unit of i-data international (KFX KFX - The kernel language of FX-87.

["Polymorphic Effect Systems", J.M. Lucassen et al, Proc 15th Ann ACM Conf POPL, ACM 1988, pp.47-57].
: i-data), announces that Pacific Technology Services, Inc. has selected Aviva for Java as the mainframe host connectivity middleware for Stonehouse Technologies Inc.'s TeleMONIES(TM) application.

Stonehouse Technologies, Inc. (STI STI systolic time intervals. ) is a leading provider of telecom financial management solutions. TeleMONIES(TM) is STI's comprehensive Web-based, communication portal that enables companies to analyze and manage enterprise-wide telecommunications expenditures via a cost-effective and easy-to-use application service provider (ASP) framework.

Pacific Technology Services selected Aviva Solutions' Aviva for Java-a secure, "thin-client", browser-based 3270, 5250 and VT220 emulator-because of the product's superior Java servlet functionality. Aviva for Java's advanced servlet A Java application that runs in a Web server or application server and provides server-side processing such as accessing a database and e-commerce transactions. Widely used for Web processing, servlets are designed to handle HTTP requests (get, post, etc.  capabilities enables STI to deliver its legacy-driven TeleMONIES(TM) solution as a servlet-based application over the Web, and provide its customers with faster access than any other portal in its class.

"Aviva has enabled us to launch our web-based solutions while maintaining the integrity, reliability and maturity of our mainframe applications," said John Todd John Todd is the name of:
  • John Todd (Virginia) (1750-1782), early Virginia official, Kentucky soldier, and grand-uncle of Mary Todd Lincoln
  • John Blair Smith Todd (1814-1872), delegate to US Congress from Dakota Territory

"We evaluated fourteen other middleware solutions before choosing Aviva," said Ralph Stillinger, System Architect for Pacific Technology Services. "Aviva for Java was unmatched in terms of pure servlet functionality, solid source code foundation, clean applets and sensible pricing options. In fact, Aviva for Java was the only solution that enabled us to develop Java servlets so we didn't have to rely on applets for information download, as is commonly done with other middleware products. Applets take several minutes to download, costing precious production time. Servlet-based applications, on the other hand, are much faster because all computing remains on the web server. This was of vital importance to us in our selection criteria."

Stillinger further commented on how Aviva for Java dramatically reduced Pacific Technology Services software development and deployment times. "Aviva for Java's centrally defined and managed configuration enabled seamless integration An addition of a new application, routine or device that works smoothly with the existing system. It implies that the new feature or program can be installed and used without problems. Contrast with "transparent," which implies that there is no discernible change after installation.  into our web application server repository. This in turn reduced our user and software management costs, providing one more way for us to pass cost savings on to our clients."

STI's TeleMONIES(TM) communications portal enables customers to streamline the analysis and processing functions of real-time inventory control, order management, billing, and bill presentment See EBPP.  Aviva for Java's servlet functionality enables users to quickly and seamlessly alter or update the various fields within the numerous operation screens of their TeleMONIES(TM) portal. Aviva for Java's development tools provide complete access to the host data stream, allowing the servlet to exchange data with the host. Host data is then reformatted by the servlet for presentation to the customer in a user-familiar and uninterrupted HTML HTML

Markup language derived from SGML that is used to prepare hypertext documents. Relatively easy for nonprogrammers to master, HTML is the language used for documents on the World Wide Web.

WML is an XML document type allowing standard XML and HTML tools to be used to develop WML applications. It evolved from Openwave's HDML, but WML is not a superset of HDML.  format. The servlet also translates incoming, customer responsive data into the appropriate format for the host. Aviva for Java enables "screen scraping" of existing data without ever touching the actual host application, which eliminates the need to re-write crucial legacy applications.

"TeleMONIES is a prime example of how Aviva for Java can help ASPs leverage otherwise complex legacy applications in today's e-business world," said Larry Curran, President of Aviva Solutions Inc. "Most companies continue to hold their mainframes and other host systems as valuable assets in terms of financial investments and build-up of critical business data. As a middleware solution, Aviva for Java enables companies like STI to preserve their stable and dependable legacy systems while extending these systems' capabilities to new e-business applications."
