Avinti Launches iSolation Server Version 2.1 to Help Stem the Rising Tide of Crimeware; Reporting Features Enable Enterprise Organizations to Pinpoint and Prevent First-Instance E-mail Threats.

LINDON, Utah -- Executives anxious to protect their corporate data and reputation from the costly impact of crimeware (1) Software designed to steal personal information or perform some other illegal operation. It is malicious software that causes a crime to be committed. See warez and malware.

(2) Software that helps someone perform an unwanted or illegal act via the computer. Programs and documentation that enable less technical people to set up their own spam, virus or phishing attacks are crimeware, essentially a software development kit for scoundrels.
and unknown e-mail threats can now identify and stop the first instance of previously undetected threats with Avinti's newly announced iSolation Server version 2.1. By teaming iSolation Server's virtual machine (1) The name given to various programming language interpreters. See Java Virtual Machine and Python.

behavior testing with advanced reporting features and greater throughput, organizations can proactively identify and defend against Trojans, keyloggers See keystroke logger. and other fast-moving malware before they steal sensitive corporate data.

Recent findings and data breaches have called widespread attention to crimeware that steals corporate data for financial gain. Symantec reported in its 2006 Internet Security Threat Report that of the top 50 identified threats, 80 percent attempted to access confidential information, and a shocking 92 percent of the most threatening code was delivered via SMTP e-mail. Avinti's virtual machine security solution provides specific protection against such e-mail threats by preopening and testing attachments in a secure, virtual environment at the network edge. Using the virtual machine approach, iSolation Server identifies and stops targeted crimeware that currently slips past traditional defenses and delivers malicious payloads to unsuspecting organizations.

"Organizations serious about mitigating the risks of cybercrime Crime on the information superhighway, typically having to do with online fraud. See cybercrook. cannot afford to be without iSolation Server as a vital layer of protection in their e-mail defense," said Avinti CEO Terry Dickson. "Avinti's virtual machine approach uniquely identifies and stops the first instance of unknown, targeted crimeware attacks that currently installed antivirus solutions don't catch."

Specifically, the new version of iSolation Server v2.1 provides:

--Advanced reporting features - detailed reports on blocked unknown malicious messages that slip past existing defenses, along with the attempted behavior the threat would have executed

--Greater throughput - message throughput of up to a half million messages per day per server

--Active content A Web page that provides interaction or dynamic changes and contains such "action items" as animated GIFs, Java, JavaScript, streaming audio and video or ActiveX controls. filter - SMTP mail filter (messaging) mail filter - A program which sorts and processes incoming mail based on patterns found in the mail headers.

procmail is an example for Unix.
that strips out active, potentially dangerous content from HTML e-mail An e-mail message formatted as a Web page (HTML document). It allows the publishing of more elaborate newsletters and reports and sending them via e-mail. In order to view an HTML e-mail message, the e-mail program must support it, typically by calling functions within the Web browser to do the actual rendering on screen.

In an effort to make ordinary e-mail as exciting as a Web page, HTML-based e-mail creates more vulnerability to viruses.

The advanced reporting features of iSolation Server v2.1 deliver never-before-seen visibility into an organization's e-mail stream, providing administrators with detailed reports on first-instance threats slipping past their current security protection. By listing blocked threats and their attempted malicious behaviors, iSolation Server demonstrates a clear ROI for security and budget-conscious IT executives.

"iSolation Server v2.1 will continue to provide the same best-of-breed protection with the added value of greater scalability and management reporting features," said Dickson. "These features will allow administrators to pinpoint the exact malicious behaviors of incoming threats, and to see what threats are passing through existing defenses."
