Avid Technology, Inc NASDAQ: AVID is an American company specializing in video and audio production technology; specifically, digital non-linear media editing (NLE) , Inc. today announced it will launch a major series of customer events in 2002 that will bring Avid products and solutions directly to major cities across Europe. The company said it wants to make it easier for Avid customers, prospects and the media to stay in touch with Avid at a local level. As a result, the company also said it does not plan to exhibit at the 2002 International Broadcasting Convention The International Broadcasting Convention, more commonly known by its acronym IBC, is an annual trade show for broadcasters, content creators/providers, equipment manufacturers, professional and technical associations, and other participants in the broadcast industry. (IBC). While the company indicated its satisfaction with the IBC tradeshow, it believes it is important in today's market to mount a sustained campaign, throughout the year, as the most effective way to stay in touch with and serve its customers. Graham Sharp, vice president of European sales and operations commented, "This is clearly a major shift in our marketing strategy, but it is really the market that is changing. There's just so much to talk with customers about, but often so little time to have a quality discussion. We want to offer a more personal experience to our existing users, such as broadcasters and post production companies, whilst growing our user base in the enterprise and new media markets. "We favour holding a large number of targeted local events across Europe as opposed to a single Europe-wide event. We believe it's the best way to bring Avid closer to our customers," Sharp said. The local Avid events will kickoff in early 2002 and run throughout the year. Each conference will be designed to appeal to specific sections of the media market, from Broadcast seminars to multi-media training and user groups, each tailored to the local environment. There will also be a session dedicated to meeting local media. In addition to the customer-event series, the company intends to continue its investments in localized user groups, other regional customer programs and numerous trade shows in various countries across Europe. Details on the customer events -- including cities, dates and venues -- will be unveiled early in 2002. About Avid Technology, Inc.
