Today at the Streaming Media West tradeshow, Avid Internet Solutions (AIS), the Internet infrastructure division of Avid Technology, Inc. (NASDAQ: AVID), and Broadwing Communications, a wholly owned subsidiary of Broadwing Inc. (NYSE: BRW) announced that they are planning an alliance to deliver a scalable, high performance streaming media hosting service to enterprise customers who want to utilize the Internet to distribute rich media to customers, employees and prospects.

With the Trilligent(TM) Cluster, Avid's turnkey streaming media system, Broadwing's business unit, Broadwing Managed Hosting, will be able to provide live and on-demand streaming services with a high level of quality and performance over Broadwing's 18,000-mile, next-generation, fiber optic network. The Trilligent Cluster offers high performance and linear scalability that allows Broadwing to configure its services to meet today's level of demand and grow that system easily and predictably over time.

The Trilligent Cluster supports up to 5,000 megabits per second (Mbps) sustained streaming bandwidth and provides seven (7) terabytes of online storage at its full configuration. That's equivalent to the live or on-demand delivery of more than 10,000 unique 500kbs broadband streams and the online storage of tens of thousands of hours of broadband video content.

At the core of the Trilligent Cluster is patent-pending, distributed file server software running on top of a storage area network. This combination produces extremely high performance, and enables real-time, shared media access by eliminating the need to replicate disks and manage content between media servers. All servers have access to all disks in the system.
