Columbia College Chicago and Chapman University Are Latest to Purchase

(NASDAQ: AVID) today announced that more than 175 universities, colleges, and secondary schools have purchased Avid Xpress(R) DV version 3.5 software since it began shipping in June 2002. Two of these schools - Columbia College Chicago and Chapman University in Orange, California - demonstrate the recent expansion of digital media technology in the education market. These two schools alone prepare an estimated 2,400 students each year for professional careers in the feature film, broadcasting, and new media industries using industry-standard Avid(R) systems.

The School of Film and Television at Chapman University in Orange, California, maintains a close connection to the Hollywood filmmaking community. This year, Chapman is replacing the software in its postproduction lab with 40 Avid Xpress DV systems and one Avid Unity(TM) LANshare EX system. As part of this new focus, students training on Avid Xpress DV systems in the classroom will also purchase the software for their own computers.
