Today at the Content Delivery Networks (CDN) tradeshow, Avid Internet Solutions (AIS), a division of Avid Technology, Inc. (NASDAQ:AVID) introduced remote monitoring capabilities to streamline the management and system administration of the Trilligent(TM) Cluster, a turnkey streaming media system that offers high performance and linear scalability to ISPs, CDNs and telcos that provide streaming hosting services.

The Trilligent Remote Cluster Monitor (RCM) provides an intuitive, web-based remote monitoring capability that gives network administrators a simplified, unified view of the streaming cluster. The Trilligent RCM monitors key hardware and software components of the Trilligent Cluster, such as storage, media servers, switches, load balancers, and file systems. In addition to the web-based application, the Trilligent RCM also provides an SNMP MIB interface to industry standard network management tools including HP OpenView Network Node Manager.

At the low-end, a Trilligent Cluster supports 300 megabits per second (Mbps) sustained streaming bandwith and provides 90 gigabytes of storage. That system scales linearly with the addition of more servers and storage all the way up to a fully configured Trilligent Cluster, which supports up to 5000 Mbps sustained streaming bandwidth and provides seven terabytes of online storage That's roughly equivalent to the live or on-demand delivery of more than 10,000 unique 500k broadband streams and the online storage of tens of thousands of hours of broadband video content.

At the core of the Trilligent Cluster is patent-pending, distributed file system software optimized for digital media, running on top of a storage area network. This combination produces extremely high performance, and enables real-time, shared media access by eliminating the need to replicate disks and manage content between media servers.
