IBC attendees are seeing Tektronix's Profile server integrated with Avid's NewsCutter DV news editing systems on both the Avid and Tektronix stands. This solution will provide broadcasters with the first integrated end-to-end news editing and playback solution for broadcast news production and marks the initial results of the companies' recently-announced alliance.

On the Softimage stand (#1.360) visitors are seeing technology demonstrations of SOFTIMAGE|3D working within the Avid Media Illusion compositing and special effects special effects, in motion pictures, cinematographic techniques that create illusions in the audience's minds as well as the illusions created using these techniques.  environment. The Windows NT-based NewsCutter DV system is designed specifically for news production and offers unparalleled editing flexibility on an affordable PC platform. The NewsCutter DV system will also provide -- for the first time in the industry -- DV-native editing capabilities that will allow broadcasters acquiring media in a DV format to edit without changing media formats, making DV production faster, easier, and more efficient with no generational loss.

Avid Marquee - Now Shipping

Avid Marquee(tm) is resolution-independent 3D-title animation software for Silicon Graphics and Windows NT (Windows New Technology) A 32-bit operating system from Microsoft for Intel x86 CPUs. NT is the core technology in Windows 2000 and Windows XP (see Windows). Available in separate client and server versions, it includes built-in networking and preemptive multitasking.  workstations. For Broadcast News: Avid is highlighting its AvidNews(tm) Environment, including the newest versions of the Broadcast Control System, able to control up to 32 production devices, the Media Browse module and the Newsroom Computer System module, featuring support for international versions. Avid is also holding a technology demonstration showing MPEG (Moving Pictures Experts Group) An ISO/ITU standard for compressing digital video. Pronounced "em-peg," it is the universal standard for digital terrestrial, cable and satellite TV, DVDs and digital video recorders (DVRs).  and DV coexisting in a digital environment and a comparison of the compression effects generated in an MPEG-to-DV and an MPEG-to-SX concatenation.

For Television and Film: The company is showing the upcoming Version 8.0 of its Media Composer and Film Composer(R) editing/finishing solutions ideally suited for mainstream television programming and film editing, with demonstrations of new features including the Intraframe(tm) Editing II toolkit, pan and scan See pan & scan.  capability and a next-generation keyer.

Featured on the Softimage stand (#1.360) is SOFTIMAGE|DS version 2.1, Avid's recently-acquired high-end finishing system ideally suited for finishing effects-intensive television programming. Visitors will see demonstrations of expanded OMF OMF - Object Management Facility.
