Specially constructed attraction showcasing the science, technology, and culture of participating countries and enterprises.
 is scheduled for 7-27 April 2003 in Newport News Newport News, independent city (1990 pop. 170,045), SE Va., on the Virginia peninsula, at the mouth of the James River, off Hampton Roads, near Norfolk; inc. 1896. , Va. In conjunction with the U.S. Centennial of Flight Commission, the event promotes the 100th anniversary of controlled powered flight--the birth of the aerospace industry--and commemorates the historic first flight by the Wright brothers at Kitty Hawk, N.C., in 1903.

The fair will open with 5 days of professional/trade activity, followed by 16 days of public celebration. It includes national pavilions where countries from around the world will exhibit their aviation achievements and future goals; thematic exhibits focusing on the functional areas of the aviation industry; and specialized displays in which groups, associations and clubs will celebrate their involvement in aviation. Dozens of aircraft will be parked on the ground, while others fly overhead.
