It is being developed for treatment resistant HIV HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus), either of two closely related retroviruses that invade T-helper lymphocytes and are responsible for AIDS. There are two types of HIV: HIV-1 and HIV-2. HIV-1 is responsible for the vast majority of AIDS in the United States.  specifically with patients who develop the M184V mutation. In March 2008, Avexa announced positive data from ATC's Phase 2b clinical trial showing 90% of HIV patients on ATC had viral levels below detectable after 48 weeks. In several clinical trials, ATC has proven to be safe and effective in over 100 patients and is currently in Phase 3 trials for treatment experienced patients who have failed 3TC therapy.
