Avex Electronics Recognized With 3 Industry Awards.

HUNTSVILLE, Ala.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 30, 1998--AVEX Electronics Inc., a leading worldwide electronic manufacturing services provider, has been recognized with industry awards for service and performance excellence by Sun Microsystems Inc., Avid Technologies, and 'SMT' Magazine.

Sun Microsystems, Inc. presented AVEX with the Sun Outstanding Performance Award for its service excellence at Sun's 8th Annual Supplier Performance Awards Ceremony in San Jose, Calif. AVEX provides a full range of electronic manufacturing services for Sun Microsystems, a producer of network computing systems, including workstations, servers and "thin clients." This is the second year in a row that AVEX has won a Supplier Performance award from Sun Microsystems.

AVEX also received the Avid Supplier Service Award from Avid Technologies, Inc., an international developer and supplier of digital media content creation tools for multiple platforms. Senior Purchasing Manager, Michael Pacheco, presented the award to the team at AVEX in recognition of their commitment, outstanding service and support. Pacheco commented that the award was given "in appreciation of AVEX Electronics' continuing efforts to support both new and existing products as we move forward with our partnership." Avid Technologies credited AVEX with helping them provide customers with innovative, disk-based content creation tools that will allow them to work faster, more productively and with greater creative freedom.

The 'SMT' Magazine VISION Award was given to AVEX for the Contract Services category. AVEX received the award for its latest release of TIME (Total Interactive Manufacturing Environment), an extranet application which permits customers to log on to the AVEX Electronics Web site and retrieve secure, real-time factory data without any custom systems integration or maintenance. One of TIME's benefits is that it creates a "virtual company extension," meaning that customers can view the status of products and can monitor the manufacturing process as if it were occurring inside their own facility. AVEX customers using TIME can make timely market decisions about product introductions and availability, shipping updates and a host of additional strategic and tactical issues, which can shorten time-to-market. The VISION awards were created by 'SMT' magazine seven years ago to acknowledge meaningful new products that met a significant industry challenge; creatively applied new or existing technology; represented outstanding quality and performance; and answered current economic and throughput demands.
