Avery licenses RFID technology to Muhlbauer.

Avery Dennison RFID, a business unit of Avery Dennison Corporation and provider of UHF RFID inlays, announced that it has entered into an initially exclusive agreement to license its patented strap attach technology to Muhlbauer AG for its TMA 15000 smart label strap attach equipment. Muhlbauer is the first company to be licensed for the manufacturing process rights to this technology.

"Our converter partners have expressed great interest in manufacturing RFID inlays for unique applications that the Avery Dennison portfolio does not address," says Bob Cornick, vice president and general manager of Avery Dennison's RFID division. "Releasing the technology at this time reinforces our commitment to enable both our converter channel and the industry."

The patented strap attach manufacturing process is an alternative to conventional direct chip attach technology. The Avery Dennison process creates RFID inlays by placing prefabricated straps (a microchip and a connection element on a carrier sheet) on antennas. This allows converters to create RFID inlays without the high accuracy and clean room requirements needed for attaching the bare microchip directly to the antenna.
