The doctors are participants in The Physicians Development in Hemophilia Care Project, a training initiative that is part of a larger educational program sponsored by Aventis Behring that seeks to improve the treatment of hemophilia within medical communities of developing countries.

For five days, doctors and scientists from Taiwan, Argentina, Hungary, Slovakia, Mexico and Turkey will attend courses instructed by some of the leading hematologists in the U.S. According to according to

"These doctors attend this session with the goal of returning to their respective countries as trainers, sharing the information they have received through this program with fellow doctors, nurses, health professionals and patients."

The program is intended to be comprehensive, featuring courses addressing the genetics of hemophilia, research methods, physical therapy, therapy in clinical settings, home therapy, and new challenges in the twenty-first century. The participating physicians will also have the opportunity to exchange information amongst themselves, tour laboratories at the University of Pennsylvania (body, education) University of Pennsylvania - The home of ENIAC and Machiavelli.

The 3rd Physicians Development in Clinical Hemophilia Care Project is just one of eleven ongoing initiatives that Aventis Behring is sponsoring in developing countries. Other initiatives include:

The Nurses Leadership Project and Aventis Behring Camp Support - In this program, selected nurses from developing countries receive the most updated information on the practical aspects of the treatment of hemophilia. After these sessions are completed, the participating nurses will apply this new information in a camp for people with hemophilia.

The Safety Odyssey - In an effort to allay concerns of local governments and to demonstrate that there is an adequate supply of safe and effective plasma-derived therapies for those in need, Aventis Behring welcomes leading health officials from developing countries to tour the company's facilities and to observe the numerous rigorous processes Aventis Behring uses in its continuous efforts to produce safe products.

The Wall Library - Aventis Behring has translated and adapted several educational books on hemophilia for many countries, including Turkey, Brazil, Mexico, Argentina, Taiwan, China, Korea, and Indonesia. The books are displayed in an acrylic wall system and are available in selected hemophilia centers.
