Avant! Corp. to Use Intrinsa Corp.'s PREfix for IC Design Automation; Design Automation Leader Committed to High Quality and High Developer Productivity.

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 9, 1997--Intrinsa Corp. today announced that Avant! Corp. (NASDAQ NASDAQ

to develop its integrated circuit integrated circuit (IC), electronic circuit built on a semiconductor substrate, usually one of single-crystal silicon. The circuit, often called a chip, is packaged in a hermetically sealed case or a nonhermetic plastic capsule, with leads extending from it for  (IC) design automation software.

Avant!, the fastest growing electronic design automation (EDA (1) (Electronic Design Automation) Using the computer to design, lay out, verify and simulate the performance of electronic circuits on a chip or printed circuit board. ) software tools provider, will use Intrinsa's PREfix family of software defect defect - bug  prevention and detection products to ensure high quality software and increase developer productivity.

"Providing high quality, innovative IC development tools and technology to our customers is Avant!'s mission," said Dr. Chi-Ping Hsu, Avant! vice president, engineering. "Because PREfix detects defects early in the development process, we can increase developer productivity, ensure a higher quality product, and, at the same time, reduce our product development time and costs."

Hsu continued, "A key advantage of PREfix is that it allows our developers to fix defects before the code is integrated, where they are much easier and less expensive to fix. This gives us both a competitive advantage and increased customer satisfaction."

"Avant!'s cutting-edge technology and commitment to quality makes them an industry leader," said Michael Schuh, president and chief executive officer of Intrinsa Corp. "By using PREfix to find and fix software defects earlier in the process, Avant! will enhance their already strong ability to provide their customers with the highest quality, leading edge design automation products."

PREfix Facilitates Defect Prevention and Detection

PREfix enables software development teams to detect programming and interface defects at the earliest stage in the development cycle -- at or before compile time The time it takes to translate a program from source language into machine language. Linker time may also be included in compile time. See compile and linker.

-- by simulating the execution of source code components. PREfix does not require test cases, and does not change either the developer's methodology or the code itself. Using PREfix, developers can identify crash-causing bugs early in the development cycle, assuring quality code and improving time-to-market.

PREfix is the first Intrinsa product based on the company's patent-pending Software Component Simulation (SCS SCS,

) technology. SCS is a revolutionary new technology that simulates the execution of source code without actually having to run the code. PREfix is the first development solution based on SCS to offer defect prevention as well as detection. PREfix identifies and reports defects in both newly-developed code as well as extremely mature, well-tested code.
