Avance Logic announces ALG2064 driver for Windows 95; ALG2064 redefines entry-level graphics accelerator market.

FREMONT, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 24, 1995--Avance Logic Inc., a leading producer of PCI graphics accelerators, is pleased to announce its fourth generation DRAM-based PCI graphics accelerator chip, ALG2064 now has support for Microsoft(R) Windows(R) 95.

The ALG2064 chip incorporates a powerful graphics engine, DAC, clocks, and BIOS into a highly integrated cost-effective single chip.

OEM add-in board designers can now implement a complete entry-level graphics subsystem with only three components, an ALG2064 graphics chip, and two 256Kx16 fast page DRAM chips.

"The beauty of the ALG2064 chip is that it integrates a high performance 64-bit DRAM graphics accelerator with a 24-bit RAMDAC, dual programmable clock generators, and 32K masked ROM," explained Harris.

At the heart of the ALG2064 is a superior graphics engine consisting of the most frequently used Graphics User Interface (GUI) operations such as BITBLT, line draw, area fill, and polygon fill.

In addition, the integral 24-bit RAMDAC is the third generation of Avance Logic's technology and provides 8, 16 or 24-bits per pixel. By operating up to 110Mhz, the RAMDAC supports the higher refresh rates and resolutions demanded by the volume PC marketplace.

The integral dual programmable clocks provide all the necessary video clock frequencies to drive the graphics subsystem. The generator produces the DRAM memory clock and the Dot Clock to the RAMDAC.

The BIOS (Object Code) comes built into the ALG2064 chip. The BIOS provides complete PCI and VL bus compatibility as well as downward video mode compatibility. An object code distribution license is included in the manufacturing and design kit.

The ALG2064 drivers for Windows 95 and utilities are customized to take full advantage of the processing capabilities of the ALG2064 chip and the 32-bit operations of Windows 95. Moreover, it offers high performance for popular software applications.

To protect the environment, the ALG2064 complies with the EPA Energy Star Green PC Standards. The chip shows a power savings of 50% when in the non-operating state and somewhat less in a standby state.

In addition, the ALG2064 supports the VESA Display Data Channel (DDC) standard that permits transfer of monitor identification and resolution data.

The ALG2064 chip began shipping to OEMs in July with production scheduled for August. The part is available in a 208 pin PQFP package and priced at US$15 in OEM quantities.
