Avalon launches AVALON 9 for ORACLE; Release features new architecture, choice of user interfaces, enhanced functionality.

TUCSON, Ariz.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 29, 1994--Avalon Software, the market-leading vendor of client/server software applications for manufacturing, distribution, and financials, announced Tuesday shipment of a major new release of AVALON (formerly Avalon CIIM CIIM Community Internet Intensity Maps
CIIM Canary Islands Independence Movement
) for ORACLE.

AVALON 9 for ORACLE provides manufacturing and distribution organizations with the high performance and robust functionality necessary to streamline global operations Global Operations is a first-person shooter computer game developed by Barking Dog Studios and published by both Crave Entertainment and Electronic Arts. It was released in March of 2002, following its public multiplayer beta version which contained only the Quebec map. .

AVALON 9 delivers significant enhancements in key areas:

-0- -- New application architecture to fully leverage the ORACLE7 "active database," support true client/server architecture An environment in which the application processing is divided between client workstations and servers. It implies the use of desktop computers interacting with servers in a network in contrast to processing everything in a large centralized mainframe. See client/server. , and deliver significant performance improvements; -- Choice of user interfaces: new Windows-based Graphical User Interface graphical user interface (GUI)

Computer display format that allows the user to select commands, call up files, start programs, and do other routine tasks by using a mouse to point to pictorial symbols (icons) or lists of menu choices on the screen as opposed to having to
and support for workstations running Motif through Oracle Forms 4.0; -- Enhanced financial applications for global and multi-unit organizations; -- Upgraded manufacturing and distribution functionality for streamlining repetitive processes as well as reducing cycle time for demand and supply.

Available on the ORACLE platform since 1986, AVALON was the first suite of manufacturing and distribution applications designed to exploit a distributed, client/server architecture. Each new release addresses the changing needs of global organizations which must bring higher quality products to market faster for lower costs. Now, AVALON 9 features a new applications architecture; a choice of two user interfaces; comprehensive, global financial applications; and enhanced manufacturing and distribution functionality.

With AVALON 9, Avalon has taken advantage of Oracle's "active database" functionality by moving 80% of the application logic, including business rules, as well as stored triggers and procedures, to the database. This improves application performance by reducing network traffic and completing more processing on the server. Additionally, this architecture enables third party client-based applications, such as spreadsheets, report-writers, or data collection devices, to link to AVALON 9 with maximum security and data integrity.

With version 9, Avalon has developed more than 3,000 triggers and procedures, such as rules to replenish inventory when supply drops below a specific level, or ensure that orders are sent to pre-qualified vendors.

In addition to the text-based interface typically used in shop floor manufacturing and distribution applications, AVALON 9 offers a new Microsoft Windows-based GUI (Graphical User Interface) A graphics-based user interface that incorporates movable windows, icons and a mouse. The ability to resize application windows and change style and size of fonts are the significant advantages of a GUI vs. a character-based interface. , as well as support for workstation clients running Motif. Developed using ORACLE Forms 4.0, these new GUIs deliver mouse-driven navigation abilities and point-and-click access to data. Because client processes run under the familiar Microsoft Windows See Windows.
