Users can now create customized, speech-enabled applications without becoming experts in speech recognition. With the release of Dragon SpeechTool in the U.K. and Germany, announced today by Dragon Systems Dragon Systems, Inc., was the company that created DragonDictate and Dragon NaturallySpeaking. It was founded in 1982 by Drs. Dragon SpeechTool's interactive user interface makes it easy to build a custom vocabulary -- just say the word: SpeechTool automatically converts one's voice into a vocabulary model. For complete flexibility and control of custom vocabularies, SpeechTool give users the ability to listen to and modify each word pronunciation pronunciation: see phonetics; phonology.

 Models - Dragon SpeechTool automatically generates speaker-independent recognition vocabularies, so new word training is not required. The advanced phonetic models allow new words to be used in continuous phrases or natural-language commands, so the application can recognize anything from "Send a fax to Joe Snarkle" to "Activate (1) See trigger.

Development System Requirements To be used efficiently, all computer software needs certain hardware components or other software resources to be present on a computer system. These pre-requisites are known as (computer) system requirements and are often used as a guideline as opposed to an absolute rule.  

SpeechTool requires DragonDictate for Windows version 2.x which is sold separately and requires 10 MB of additional hard disk space for installation. DragonPro language modules are available for developing specialized vertical market vocabularies in German and U.S. English. SpeechTool currently supports German, British English, and U.S. English.

End-User System Requirements

For dictation applications, DragonDictate for Windows version 2.x is required (available separately). Custom, non-dictation vocabularies may be distributed royalty-free with the end-user application. Add-on vocabulary products for DragonDictate may be subject to licensing fees; details are available by contacting Dragon Systems UK at (02142) 678575 or Dragon Systems GmbH at (01674) 96610. For small vocabulary applications, Dragon Speech runtime licenses are available and custom vocabularies may be distributed royalty-free with the end-user application.
