SAN JOSE, Calif. -- Avago Technologies today announced it has shipped its 500 millionth infrared (IR) transceiver since releasing its first IrDA-compliant transceiver for consumer applications in 1994. Avago was one of the founding members of the IrDA (Infrared Data Association) and today has a wide range of products supporting data transfer rates from 115 kbps to 4 Mbps, as well as one of the smallest IR transceivers on the market.         transceiver and software, and accelerate handset designers'
        time-to-market.

        During the same year, the company introduced the industry's
        first IR transceiver integrated with universal IR remote
        control software, enabling mobile phones and PDAs to
        function as remote control devices, with a range of up to
        8 meters (approximately 26 feet), for TVs, VCRs, DVD
        players and other home appliances.

    --  In 2004, Avago produced the industry's smallest
        encoder-decoder chip, measuring 0.8 mm high, with a footprint
        of 4.0 mm x 4.0 mm, for use in mobile phones and other
        applications that require serial IR connectivity.
