Avago Technologies Releases Industry's First High-Speed Digital Optocouplers Targeted for Hybrid Electric Vehicle Applications.

Specifically Designed for Unique Temperature and Reliability Demands of Automotive Systems See ITS, embedded system, drive-by-wire, adaptive cruise control, collision avoidance system, autonomous vehicle, heads-up display, DSRC, lane departure system, CAN bus, FlexRay and SYNC.

MUNICH, Germany -- Avago Technologies Avago Technologies is an American company which was earlier the semiconductor products division of HP and later Agilent Technologies, before being spun off into a distinct legal entity. It holds more than 2,000 patents.  today introduced the industry's first automotive-grade 10 MBd digital interface optocoupler. The company is a leading supplier of innovative semiconductor solutions for advanced communications, industrial and commercial applications. Built to withstand high temperatures of up to +125 degrees C, Avago's new ACPL-M61T is the only high speed digital optocoupler available to support the stringent requirements of various networking, communication and system management applications within hybrid electric vehicles.

Wide temperature support of -40 degrees C to +125 degrees C makes the ACPL-M61T ideal for implementation in CANbus vehicle communication networks, battery management systems, safety and infotainment applications in all automobiles, including hybrid electric vehicles. Additionally, the product adheres to AECQ100 guidelines, ensuring manufacturers that Avago's optocouplers provide a consistent level of high-quality and reliability.

Due to the high number of electrical components in hybrid electric vehicles, opto-isolation products play a key role in the optimal performance of these cars. "Leveraging our extensive optocoupler expertise, we engineered the ACPL-M61T without compromise to quality and reliability making the product suitable for automotive applications," said Kheng-Jam Lee, worldwide marketing manager of Avago Technologies' Optical Communication Solutions Division. This is the second product family targeting the emerging trend of hybrid electric vehicles - we will continue the momentum of developing new products for this growing automotive market."

Avago's 10 Mbd ACPL-M61T comes with an enhanced LED (5 mA) for lower driving current and lower power consumption. The high-speed digital optocoupler also comes with enhanced wire bonding Wire bonding is a method of making interconnections between a microchip and other electronics as part of semiconductor device fabrication.

The wire is generally made up of one of the following:
  • Gold
  • Aluminum
  • Copper
processes and an improved lead frame for added reliability and better heat dissipation Noun 1. heat dissipation - dissipation of heat

U.S. Pricing and Availability

Pricing for the ACPL-M61T starts at $2.50 in 10,000 unit quantities. It is shipped in leaded or lead-free versions and with tape and reel options. The product is available now through Avago's direct sales channel and worldwide distribution partners.

Avago will demonstrate its new products at booth #243 located in Hall A4 at Electronica this week in Munich from Nov. 14-17, 2006.

Avago Optoisolation Solutions

Avago Technologies is the No. 1 supplier of photo-IC optocouplers and ships hundreds of millions of products annually. The company provides the industry's broadest portfolio of optocouplers for use in a wide array of high voltage The term high voltage characterizes electrical circuits, in which the voltage used is the cause of particular safety concerns and insulation requirements. High voltage is used in electrical power distribution, in cathode ray tubes, to generate X-rays and particle beams, to  isolation applications ranging from power supply and motor control circuits to data communications data communications, application of telecommunications technology to the problem of transmitting data, especially to, from, or between computers. In popular usage, it is said that data communications make it possible for one computer to "talk" with another.  and digital logic interface circuits. Avago is the technology leader in high speed, low voltage Low voltage is an electrical engineering term that broadly identifies safety considerations of an electricity supply system based on the voltage used. While different definitions exist for the exact voltage range covered by "low voltage", the most commonly used ones include "mains  and high integration optocouplers, and offers the widest range of packages and worldwide safety approvals. Key products include multi-channel and bi-directional digital optocouplers, intelligent power module gate driver interface devices, 3.3 V and 5 V digital optocouplers, 100 KBaud to 50 MBaud digital logic gate optocouplers, 100 MBd magnetic isolators, gate drive and current sense optocouplers, solid state relays (MOSFET (Metal Oxide Semiconductor Field Effect Transistor) The most popular and widely used type of field effect transistor (see FET). MOSFETs are either NMOS (n-channel) or PMOS (p-channel) transistors, which are fabricated as individually packaged ), phototransistors and analog and high-performance hermetic hermetic /her·met·ic/ (her-met´ik) impervious to air.
