Avago Technologies Introduces Industry's First Automotive-Grade RGB Color Sensor; Color and Brightness Feedback Supports Total Color Flexibility for Automotive Interior Lighting, Other Commercial Applications.

SAN JOSE San Jose, city, United States
San Jose (sănəzā`, săn hōzā`), city (1990 pop. 782,248), seat of Santa Clara co., W central Calif.; founded 1777, inc. 1850.
, Calif. -- Avago Technologies Avago Technologies is an American company which was earlier the semiconductor products division of HP and later Agilent Technologies, before being spun off into a distinct legal entity. It holds more than 2,000 patents.  today introduced the industry's first RGB (Red Green Blue) The computer's native color space, which is the color system for capturing and displaying images. RGB was derived from our own perception of color because human eyes are sensitive to red, green and blue (see trichromaticity).  (red, green, blue) analog-output color sensor that meets the specifications of the Automobile Electronics Council AEC-Q100 Stress Test Qualification for Integrated Circuits Integrated circuits

Miniature electronic circuits produced within and upon a single semiconductor crystal, usually silicon. Integrated circuits range in complexity from simple logic circuits and amplifiers, about 1/20 in. (1.
. Components meeting these specifications are considered suitable for use in the harsh automotive environment.

In vehicle interiors, Avago's ADJD-E622-QR999 CMOS (Complementary Metal Oxide Semiconductor) Pronounced "c-moss." The most widely used integrated circuit design. It is found in almost every electronic product from handheld devices to mainframes.  (complementary metal oxide semiconductor See CMOS.

) analog-output sensor converts colored light to accurate, proportional red, green and blue voltage outputs. These outputs can potentially be used for open-loop or closed-loop optical feedback for light sources in navigational panels, dashboard and interior lighting. The use of the ADJD-E622-QR999 in a closed-loop optical feedback system assures consistent color and brightness for RGB LED (light-emitting diode) lighting and backlighting back·light

systems such as in liquid crystal displays. The combination of a color sensor with RGB LED lighting replaces the limited range of colors available from conventional LEDs with a virtually unlimited palette of lighting colors. The combination can also be used to offer the driver a selection of lighting colors to reflect his or her preferences.

"The use of RGB LEDs is increasing with each new car model," said Soo Ghee Lee, vice president and general manager of Avago Technologies' Optoelectronics Products Division. "Avago's patented color controller and the ADJD-E622-QR999 form an ideal and unrivaled complementary color complementary color

, we strongly believe this automotive-grade color sensor will accelerate the adoption of custom lighting colors in the automotive market."

The AEC-Q100 Stress Test Qualification indicates that Avago's RGB color Typically refers to 24-bit color. See color palette, 24-bit color, 16-bit color and 8-bit color.  sensor offers a combination of robust packaging with low sensitivity to ESD (1) (Electronic Software Distribution) Distributing new software and upgrades via the network rather than individual installations on each machine. See ESL.  (electrostatic discharge). This also assures its reliability in industrial, commercial and test equipment applications. The device is an excellent choice for uses ranging from bill acceptors for vending and change machines, to applications in the factory environment including color matching paints, textiles and cosmetics; printing process control, contamination detection, and analytical measurement.

The ADJD-E622-QR999 is supplied in a lead-free QFN-16 (16-pad quad flat no-lead) surface-mount package with dimensions of 5 mm by 5 mm by 0.75 mm high. The height is 25 percent less than Avago's previously-introduced analog RGB color sensor, which can help make printed circuit assemblies thinner to pack more functions in the same space. This CMOS RGB sensor features an extended storage temperature range of -50 degrees C to +105 degrees C, and operating temperature range of -40 degrees C to +85 degrees C. It passes the automotive latch-up compliance standard, and offers an HBM HBM Human Body Model

Avago's RGB color sensor is a monolithic CMOS IC solution with integrated RGB color filters combined with three sets of 3 x 3 photodiode A light sensor (photodetector) that allows current to flow in one direction from one side to the other when it absorbs photons (light). The more light, the more the current. Used to detect light pulses in optical fibers and other light-sensitive applications, it works the opposite of a  arrays, one for each color, which minimizes the effect of contamination and optical aperture misalignment mis·a·ligned

to analog voltages. The voltage output of each channel (R, G and B) increases linearly with increasing light intensity, and the gain of each channel can be independently set.

The color sensor features uniform color filter arrays throughout the photodiode active area, which helps to resolve potential inaccuracies caused by light gradient, optical aperture misalignment and tilting and irregularities of the package surface.
