, Calif. -- Avago Technologies Avago Technologies is an American company which was earlier the semiconductor products division of HP and later Agilent Technologies, before being spun off into a distinct legal entity. It holds more than 2,000 patents.  today announced the expansion of its series of miniature reflective incremental Additional or increased growth, bulk, quantity, number, or value; enlarged.

optical encoders, which are currently the smallest in the industry, with a new high resolution encoder. With dimensions of 3mm length by 3.28mm width by 1.26 mm height, Avago's AEDR-8400-14x reflective surface mount optical encoders are robust and can operate over a wide temperature range making them an ideal choice for use in a variety of office and industrial automation applications. Avago is a leading supplier of analog interface components for communications, industrial and consumer applications.

Avago's AEDR-8400-14x series of high resolution optical encoders provide up to 318 lines per inch Lines per inch (LPI) is a measurement of printing resolution in systems that use a halftone screen. Specifically, it is a measure of how close together the lines in a halftone grid are. Higher LPI indicates greater detail and sharpness.  (LPI) resolution, have two-channel quadrature quadrature, in astronomy, arrangement of two celestial bodies at right angles to each other as viewed from a reference point. These high resolution optical encoders also incorporate an LED light source and photo detector IC in a single leadless package, and uses reflective technology to sense rotary or linear position. Moreover, the AEDR-8400-14x encoder can be interfaced directly with most signal processing See DSP.  circuitries to provide design-in flexibility and easy integration into existing systems. The AEDR-8400 series of encoders are an excellent choice for use in miniature motor applications, housed encoders, digital still cameras, scanners, printers, and a wide range of other office and industrial automation applications where space is limited.

Avago's AEDR-8400 series of reflective encoders provide accurate real-time position sensing that's superior to competing encoders in terms of duty, state and phase. They are also insensitive to axial play and maintain performance and accuracy over a wide variation in the gap between sensor and code wheel or strip. The AEDR-8400 series can be used with a reflective code wheel to sense rotary position and velocity, or with a linear code strip to sense linear position and velocity.

With the addition of the AEDR-8400-14x encoder, Avago can now provide designers of office and industrial automation applications with a choice of two miniature reflective optical encoder options. The higher resolution AEDR-8400-14x offers up to 318 LPI while the AEDR-8400-13x offers up to 254 LPI.
