Auxora, Inc., a provider of wavelength management and control solutions for optical communications Optical communications

The transmission of speech, data, video, and other information by means of the visible and the infrared portion of the electromagnetic spectrum.
, today unveiled a tunable filter for Optical Performance Monitoring Optical performance monitoring (OPM) is used for managing high capacity dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) optical transmission and switching systems in Next Generation Networks (NGN).  ("OPM See Oracle Process Manufacturing. ") applications.

The TF100-PM series tunable filter has been specifically designed for OPM applications. Auxora's tunable filter is unique because it has a wide passband pass·band

suitable for 10 Gb/sec. applications, and covers all channels in C- or L-bands at 100 GHz channel spacing with very high uniformity in loss and bandwidth. The TF100-PM also features high isolation, low loss, low PDL See page description language.

, and high reflection isolation. The module also features wavelength control utilizing both analog voltage and digital control via RS-232 or Ethernet connections. Both continuous tuning and discrete ("non-blocking") tuning modes are available.

This product is based on Auxora's high performance thin film filters that are manufactured using its proprietary NanoCODE(TM) technology. "Thin film filters have been widely deployed in telecommunication networks and have been proven to be a reliable and high performance technology," said Dr. Xinxiong Zhang, Auxora's President and Chief Executive Officer. "We believe thin film technology is the best technology currently available to provide tunable filters with the price/performance ratios that our customers require. The introduction of this product demonstrates once again that thin film filter technology is flexible and is an enabling technology," Zhang concluded.

As more and more wavelengths are deployed in the DWDM (Dense WDM) The term given to wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) when significantly more channels were being added. Since WDM is increasingly more "dense" all the time, both terms are used synonymously. See WDM.

systems, especially in the Metro networks, the management and provisioning of the networks become increasingly important. Optical performance monitoring is an important part of network management, and tunable filters will make it practical and cost effective.

The TF100-PM series of products, which are currently sampling and will be generally available in the first quarter of 2003, will be on display at booth #1440 at the National Fiber Optic Engineers Conference ("NFOEC") in Dallas, Texas on September 15-19, 2002.
