Automotive thermoplastic elastomer.

Hong Yang Sealings is using NexPrene 9075A materials and a proprietary process to significantly improve both the quality and weatherability of co-extruded automotive door seals with a colored decorative top-coat.

Conventional designs for such an application are said to include three primary features, including a foamed thermoset A polymer-based liquid or powder that becomes solid when heated, placed under pressure, treated with a chemical or via radiation. The curing process creates a chemical bond that, unlike a thermoplastic, prevents the material from being remelted. See thermoplastic.  rubber bulb that contacts the door to provide the functional seal; a backbone of solid thermoset rubber, extruded over a metal structure, to clamp onto a car's door frame; and a wing with a colored top-coat, which is visible in the interior and serves to cover the edges of headliners, pillars and carpeting.

For the top-coat, instead of a traditional thermoset material, Hong Yang selected NexPrene 9075A vulcanized vul·ca·nize

thermoplastic elastomer Thermoplastic elastomers (TPE), sometimes referred to as thermoplastic rubbers, are a class of copolymers or a physical mix of polymers (usually a plastic and a rubber) which consist of materials with both thermoplastic and elastomeric properties. . The NexPrene TPV is said to allow the company to improve its product quality significantly. It is said to enable it to match the top-coat to any color that its OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) The rebranding of equipment and selling it. The term initially referred to the company that made the products (the "original" manufacturer), but eventually became widely used to refer to the organization that buys the products and  customers require. With NexPrene, the top-coat will not show noticeable color change, even after years of use.
