) -- the U.S. Army's equivalent of the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award The Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award is given by the United States National Institute of Standards and Technology. Through the actions of the National Productivity Advisory Committee chaired by Jack Grayson, it was established by the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality .

At the awards ceremony, special recognition was given to Robbins-Gioia's project management team for its significant contribution to this achievement. Because the on-site personnel played an integral role in the Depot's information technology initiative, Robbins-Gioia (R-G) was the only contractor to be so honored.

The Army of Chief Staff annual ACOE Awards are based on stringent criteria for performance improvement in Army communities around the globe. In the 1996 competition, the Red River Army Depot demonstrated, through quantified results, how the implementation of advanced information technology was key to streamlined operations, reduced costs, and increased efficiency and throughput.

The Red River Army Depot is responsible for both the overhaul and remanufacturing of Army tracked vehicles, and this year has begun working on Army and Marine Corps wheeled vehicles, as well.

Since December 1993, R-G's team of four information technology professionals have worked on-site to implement and manage the Programmed Depot Maintenance That maintenance performed on materiel requiring major overhaul or a complete rebuild of parts, assemblies, subassemblies, and end-items, including the manufacture of parts, modifications, testing, and reclamation as required.  Scheduling System (PDMSS PDMSS Program Depot Maintenance Schedule System ), which utilizes integrated databases to track cost, schedule and performance. On-site R-G team members include Richard Middleton Notable individuals named Richard Middleton:

.

According to Richard Middleton, since PDMSS first went on-line in January of 1995, the Red River Army Depot's productivity and efficiency have soared, despite an increased workload. "As a result of our efforts, we've been able to document a 20 percent increase in scheduling efficiency and a 50 percent reduction in per-vehicle overtime," he notes. "We currently have sixteen programs, covering eleven different types of vehicles running through the Depot's facilities and being scheduled and tracked through the system. This represents 155 vehicles currently in production." Because the PDMSS automates complex planning, scheduling and tracking, and can be custom-tailored to each depot's specific requirements, the program has enabled military maintenance depots throughout the U.S. to achieve similarly impressive results.
