Automated Optical Stressed Eye Compliance Testing Now Available; New BERTScope(TM) Software Optimizes Key Parameters and is Bit Rate Flexible.

MENLO PARK Menlo Park.

2 Uninc.
, Calif. -- SyntheSys Research, manufacturer of the BERTScope family of products, introduces BERTScope Optical Stress Compliance software that can construct a calibrated cal·i·brate

In the past, test engineers were limited to testing only to one bit rate and either the optical or electrical sides of transceivers -- but not both. With the new Optical Stress Compliance Software, the BERTScope Optical Stress Test Set automatically adjusts parameters and optimizes the stressed eye for compliance to industry standards. The BERTScope Optical Stressed Eye Test Set is configurable for multiple data rates and provides both electrical and optical stressed eye testing for 2x, 4x, 10x and the proposed 8x Fibre Channel, as well as 10GbE at 850, 1310, or 1550nm wavelengths.

The stressed eye signal is produced by a BERTScope S and JDSU JDSU JDS Uniphase (stock symbol)

OPTX10 Optical Transmitter. For proper characterization, the setup also uses a Picometrix Reference Receiver. The software controls the BERTScope S and JDSU OPTX10 and optimizes the signal produced by looking at the optical signal out of the OPTX10 using the Picometrix/BERTScope S and adjusts the transmission parameters to see the effect on the analyzer. The software uses a convergence algorithm to optimize the parameters. Once set up, the standards require that sinusoidal sinusoidal /si·nus·oi·dal/ (si?nu-soi´dal)

For example, in a network transmission, jitter would be a bit arriving either ahead or behind a standard clock cycle  (SJ) be adjusted and stepped through according to according to

"Optical stress testing Determining the durability of a system by pushing it to its limits. Stress testing a network is performed by transmitting excessive numbers of packets or attempting to break in illegally.  has been a tough challenge for the industry," said Charlie Schaffer, Vice President of Marketing for SyntheSys Research. "Our customers have stated that they need to be sure that the jitter tolerance signal they are testing with is compliant but not over stressed, and when it passes or fails, be able to investigate why. I'm pleased that we have a solution that addresses their needs."

Availability

Delivery for the BERTScope Optical Stress Compliance Software is 12 weeks ARO.
